Exploring an Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop in a Mission to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have found a variety of engaging independent titles. However, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel jumping adventure features a hero that is truly a turd striving to make its way to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is straightforward: just use a one button to leap. In numerous levels, battle boss fights and visit a market to acquire customizations for your dung hero.

Plan your actions precisely, as a wrong move forces starting over. Leap off air pockets to hurl the poop upward, navigate crumbling surfaces, and touch triggers to reveal hidden paths. Gather coins and use them on challenging stages in which things ramps up.

Visually, the demo features neon environments and a killer music score. The retro visual style with morphing geometric shapes could recall fans of old favorites like Earthbound.

Although hard to think of previous releases where you play as a piece of feces, video games often included scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players create grenades from character droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as fertilizer. Naturally, such content appears heavily in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already earned notable accolades, like taking top honors at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is available currently on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to launch on computers on November 19.
