Previous FBI chief James the former director has denied the charges to providing misleading information to congressional representatives and hindering a legislative process.

Mr Comey's lawyer entered the plea representing him in a US district court in the Virginia city of Alexandria on mid-week.

Patrick Fitzgerald announced he would attempt to have the legal matter terminated for multiple factors including that his client, a critic of former President Trump, was being selectively prosecuted.

James Comey was indicted soon after Trump urged his top legal official to move forward against him.

Judicial Process

At the proceedings on mid-week, the defense counsel Mr Fitzgerald informed the court they aimed to present various petitions to throw out the proceedings before a court case, claiming the government's case was vindictive and that a US attorney was wrongfully assigned to assume control of the case.

The former director's proceedings was initially managed by Erik Siebert, who resigned under scrutiny from Donald Trump after his examination into an additional rival - New York Attorney General Letitia James - did not succeed to file indictments.

Judicial Environment

Mr Comey seemed in positive mood as he entered the court on mid-week, speaking with his attorneys and being lighthearted. He was supported by his partner, Mrs Failor and child Maureen Comey, a US lawyer who the Trump administration terminated.

After listening to the court read his legal protections and the pair of allegations against him in the courtroom on Wednesday, Mr Comey was inquired if he grasped the accusations.

"I do your honour. Appreciate it," he stated to the proceedings.

Previous Events

The former director was the head of the FBI from 2013-2017 and was terminated about four months into the former president's first administration as national leader. At the moment, Mr Comey was directing an examination into Russian election interference and whether there were any connections between Moscow and the presidential campaign.

During his tenure, James Comey triggered a negative reaction from the Democratic party when he declared just days before the 2016 presidential election that he was probing political contender the candidate's use of a private email server. Indictments against Clinton were not pursued, leading to negative feedback from Republicans as well.

Ongoing Accusations

Prosecutors assert James Comey gave untrue statements to Congress during a congressional hearing in recent years when he was being examined about both the Clinton investigation as well as the election interference investigation. They claim he misled the legislative body by claiming he had not approved a person at the agency to leak to media organizations details about the FBI investigations.

Prosecutors also allege Mr Comey of "corruptly endeavoring to affect, obstruct and delay" the committee by giving misleading testimony to it.

Public Statements

In a video James Comey published to his online platform after he was accused, he said he was innocent and alleged Trump of acting like a "tyrant".

"We have understood for years that there are costs to opposing Donald Trump," he commented. "We will not live on our bended knee."
"I am not guilty," he stated further. "Therefore proceed with a legal proceeding."

The accusations against James Comey came after Donald Trump posted on online platforms insisting on his chief prosecutor, Pam Bondi, prosecute James Comey and other people.
